Great opportunity to network at the Maritime Innovation and Brokerage Event 2015

On 10 and 11 November 2015 the Maritime Innovation and Brokerage Event 2015 took place on-board the ss Rotterdam in the Netherlands. For more than 140 professionals from seventeen countries the MIBE 2015 was a great event to share R&D opportunities, meet experts on Horizon 2020 and find opportunities for cooperation with European partners.

Update of the EU innovation projects

Chairman Graham Clarke officially opened the event in Rotterdam. Keynote speaker René Berkvens, CEO of Damen Shipyards Group, presented the role of shipyards in the European research programs and how these programs support both European policy as well as the interest of shipyards, equipment suppliers and ship operators.

Pierre Perrocheau, technical advisor at SEA Europe, gave a presentation on the status of the Blue Growth activities and the way forward in order to implement an effective Blue Growth research and innovation policy.

As final speaker in the morning Chris Campbell, director of Vessels for the Future, talked about the high level goals for 2050: safer maritime transport, cleaner maritime transport and a stronger industry.

In the afternoon there were presentations about the achievements of EU innovation projects (JOULES, MOSAIC, RETROFIT and LEANWIND) and Horizon 2020 future opportunities. Also 25 organisations took part in the pitch presentations to present themselves to possible project partners. New in the programme were the speed dating sessions called ‘MIBEMatch’. In pre-arranged 20 minute meetings more than 60 participants got in contact with new research partners and discussed their project ideas.

A successful first day ended with a dinner on-board the ss Rotterdam.

Parallel sessions on specific Horizon 2020 calls

The second day started with a presentation by Brigit Gijsbers, director maritime affairs of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment. She spoke about the Dutch maritime strategy, that has been developed by the Dutch government together with the whole maritime cluster. The day ended with three rounds of parallel brokerage sessions in which detailed information on specific Horizon2020 calls was given and potential projects were discussed.
